A Senior bloggist was describing the Java as followeing :"A project done in Java will cost 5 times as much, take twice as long, and be harder to maintain than a project done in a scripting language such as PHP or Perl...". I don't want to be extreme revolusionnist againt SUN, but I share he's point of view like if I were sitting next to him drinking french coffe !

yes, but the big prolem with Java is slowliness !!

"scalability and maintainability" is a great deal for every project and is not a programming language behavior !!
I am not a fervent defender of PHP or PERL (I don't use anyone of them) nor I'm a kiki'n ass Java. Every project have it's preferred language. We can have a project written by languages because the first part is well written and the twentith part is a joke for PHP !!

Well, i think that just like every problem has a solution, every computing goal has a best solution for it.

anyway, i agree Java is slow and too complicated, and that's why .NET became a big competitor in no time at all, because it promised the same power and scalability at better speeds and simpler.

i'm no .NET advocate, i was just stating an example. but if i were to choose a road to go down, i'd definitely choose .NET.

Sure Java is slower than compiled languages like C, and sure you nobody program games with Java.

Most professional PHP developers agree on the fact that PHP is not scalable for large enterprise applications. It seems that PHP 5 will rise this issue.

Note that I realy LOVE PHP that i use at my spare time developement :-) I like it even more than Java that I use most at work.

I agree with the fact that Java is complex!
I have experienced developing Web Services clients with PHP, I've run my first hello world example in 30 minutes.
With Java, programming the same example was too complicated, and very frustrating!!

Houssein, your idea about PHP and scability is about PHP2 , PHP is a very powerfullcompiler, that have gained the web ! and if you want to know more get to www.phpindex.com (frnech) and read the report about PHP in france ! anyway I don't like also PHP for applications , I like only binary trics , so Java comes in the last of the last place with no score !!!

Have you ever thought about combining Java with PHP? I've been thinking about generated php from a Java program. I don't know if anybody else has tried that.
