Wix : First M$ OpenSource Implementation

Posted at April 20, 2004 1:28 PM in .

While peaple of MS are telling bad things about the OpenSource Concept , you'll find [here] the first contribution of Microsoft in opensource, it's no a so great project (Hosted at sourceForge), wix is "The Windows Installer XML (WiX) is a toolset that builds Windows installation packages from XML source code. The toolset supports a command line environment that developers may integrate into their build processes to build MSI and MSM setup packages." under IBM CPL licence ( a derived GPL by Big Blue) the idea is really cool, and showing MS interest on Opensource movement, this startup promises a long adventure raod of the bill boys with the penguin.

Microsoft did the cool mistake to give the source of win2K to chineese people.. And now in overnet (Emule,kazaa,..) We can find the source of many windows versions with comments from microsoft coders.. So to give a little application to the open community is not a real lost for Macro$uck..But we hope that their windowses code is not a collection of raw open libraries mixed together and put in a 1500$ box :)
