SEAN penn, MORGAN freeman and BOB hoskins in a Tunisian film

njoum el kayla

The super talented tunisian film director Ridha EL BEHI has officially declared the agreement of SEAN Penn (Mystics river, Bad Boys, The game) to play in a Tunisian movie, in addition to MORGAN freeman(Unleashed, Seven, Amistad) and BOB hoskins(Danny the Dog, Beyond the Sea,Super Mario Bros) in a movie Titled Njoum El Kayla (Stars in the midday) after it was titled Brando and Brando.

The movie is a story of a tunisian young man -played by the french-algerian actor Ghzel Nicolas- who immigrating to USA in the chase of the americain dream as invited by a holywoodian film director (SEAN penn) gets the dust and the dream turns into a nightmare as he were arabic and moslem he was deported to guantanamo concentration base.

The film is co-produced by Tunisia and europ (France, Great Britain, and Holland), the total budget is 10 million TND (8.74 million US$), the shots would be taken soon in Los angels and many tunisian cities as Kairouan and El Hawarya during 10 days, and 4 weeks in the USA.

This is the first time that a such gathering of holywood stars gets in a tunisian and even an arabic movie, we are expecting a real drama with many senses inside, as that matter is getting wider and wider, we have faith in the skills of both our cheering director Ridha and the stars around.

My only deception is about the choice of the main actor, we have many brighten actors all around Tunisia that should play the scene as is they were living it, I blame EL behi for his meaningless choice of that zmigry.

Anyway, I'm more than excioted standing for the release of the movie and who know, maye a red/white flag should rise in the oscars day... Inchallah

Karim,

Well put, but I believe we should keep our feet on the ground. It's already a great premiere to have some of the very talented actors play in a Tunisian movie.

I believe it's fair enough for the main actor to be French of Algerian origins, Algerians are almost Tunisians and vice-versa. Moreover, I can bet that most of funding is coming from France so one should understand that the main figure is french.

Besides all of the above, I just cannot think of any single good, high caliber Tunisian actor apart from Lamine Ennehdi and Mouna Noureddine. That's my unfortunate impression of Tunisian cinema, I hope I'm wrong.

HI/Salam to all

I agree with Karim that we have many many talentend actors and actresses in Tunisia , I recently met with a Tunisian director who confirmed that but I wont blame the director Ridha el Behi for choosing a French/Algerian actor to play the main role because im sure the director has his own reasons for doing so .(i can think of some)

I think we should look at the bigger picture that A TUNISIAN is Directing the movie dealing with an issue that no one has addressed before in the film industry ,the sufferings ,and unjustices facing the muslims and arabs in the USA and Europe. So it's a great honor for the Director and Tunisia.
